Description:
Medium sized accentor, streaked and distinctly colored on the front. Adult has rusty-orange band across breast. Has prominent supercilium, blackish ear-coverts and sides to crown, and whitish throat. Also has black streaking on grey neck sides, and dark streaking on belly and flanks.
Distribution:
Common summer visitor mainly in the south-western districts of Ghizer, Astore, Nagar, Gilgit and Diamer. Occupies birch, pine and juniper forest and scrub near or above the tree line, up to 3600m. Winter in scrub jungle and pastures down to 1000m.
Behavior:
Forages in skulking manner on ground beneath bushes, often in clumps of Viburnum or willow. Time mostly spent on ground, also in bushes and even tree crowns; occasionally takes insects in flight. Invertebrates, including worms; small seeds, berries and fruit. Animal material include beetles, earwigs, bugs, mayflies, and flies; also spiders.
